President’s Letter

An End-of-Year Note from Natalya – WLF President

A godly man, one of the fathers of Orthodox Church in the 4th century, Ironim said this: “When we are unable to hold on to someone physically, we hold on to them in spirit. And with those we cannot speak, of them we cannot stop talking.

Everyone has experienced loss in their life. Some have experienced it to a greater degree than others. However, everyone knows the feeling of loss, and we all know how much we want to talk about those we miss. You may ask me why I talk of death at such a joyful time of the year? Of course, you are right – it is a joyful time, but somebody paid the price for our happiness!

Christ came to the world as a baby- beautiful and precious, and gave us joy through His suffering and death.  And we must remember it! I love to talk about Jesus, as a matter a fact; I talk about Him more than anything else in my life.

Someone else is very precious and dear to me and my family, who encouraged us in our work with orphans, who loved them more than her life, who dreamed about their future, and gave her life while working for them: my daughter Julie-Marie. It has been 5 years since she was taken to heaven by the Lord, and yet it seems like yesterday.

If we could hear those who have preceded us to heaven, we would know that they are waiting for us with the smiles of angels. They would say, “We finished our race, but you are still on it. Be of good cheer to those who around you and help who need your help. The best motto of life is: if not I, then who?!”

Let’s remember our “angels” by doing something good for those who need the most – orphans and widows!!!!

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1: 27

With much respect and love,
